It started with a hammer...
Founder John Garland-Taylor
Long before the first silver bangle, our founder John Garland-Taylor was a smith. He trained 65 years ago when he left school and worked in metalwork first before moving into restoring historical armour for the likes of Warwick Castle and the National Trust. Sixty-five years on the hammer in total, with forty of them now spent making jewellery.
In 1986 John began a jewellery range of his own, working with copper sheet from the workshop into earrings, pendants, rings and cuffs. In 1995 he started created his designs in silver - first the Leiska ring and then the Fairy bangle - both of which we still make today.
The GT maker's mark, stamped on our jewellery to this day, began life marking the armour he restored. A small promise that a real pair of hands made your jewellery.
Handcrafted in our Warwickshire workshop, each design is made to be worn, loved and passed on – as individual as your story.
With over 35,000 customers and 7,500 five star reviews it's our customers who have made us who we are today.

Early Years
John comes to Hatton as the farm becomes a craft centre. A smith since school, he restores antiques first and then historical armour for Warwick Castle and The National Trust.

The family behind the workshop bench
Jewellery often marks a moment, a memory, or a feeling you want to hold onto. Here's the team behind the craftsmanship, turning that feeling on the bench into something you can hold in your hands.

David Garland-Taylor
David is John's son and joined JGT full-time in 2011. Having grown up around the workshop, he now makes a large share of the jewellery that leaves the bench, carrying on the craft, and the standards, his father built the business on.

Ria
Ria joined the bench in 2019 when sales skyrockted online. A Birmingham School of Jewellery graduate who's been making jewellery since 1995. Every Bramble piece, in silver or gold, is handmade by Ria, and her favourite to make is the Mia Cuff.

Katie
Katie is our most recent addition to the bench, joining in 2025. A First Class Honours graduate with around twenty years of experience, she brings both fresh energy and a seriously practised hand to everything she makes.

Emma
The woman keeping everything together outside of the workshop. Emma leads our marketing and social media, and looks after the front-of-house team. She also works closely with John to help perfect his new designs.

Antonia
Antonia joined JGT in 2022, bringing a rare perspective, having once run her own jewellery business. That mix of craft and know-how makes her a valued part of the workshop.

Oscar
Last but never least, Oscar, our workshop dog since 2017. He keeps a close eye on things from the comfiest spot in the studio and makes sure morale at the bench stays high.

John's Makers Mark
Every piece we make carries the GT maker's mark. A small stamp that stands for the skill, and the pride, behind forty years of our jewellery.
The makers mark began life long before the jewellery did: John developed it to distinguish the pieces of armour he restored and made over the years, and it's carried straight through to the bench.
Look closely and you'll still find it on our work today
