Handmade Sterling Silver & Gold Jewellery
At John Garland Taylor, every piece of jewellery begins with raw metal and ends in your hands - shaped, hammered, and polished by a team of skilled jewellers working in our Warwickshire workshop.
This is not mass-produced jewellery. It never has been. Every ring, bangle, earring and pendant carries the time, skill and intention of the hands that made it.

925
Sterling Silver & 9ct Gold

The Materials We Use
We work exclusively in solid 925 sterling silver, 9ct yellow gold and 9ct rose gold - metals chosen for their quality, durability and beauty.
Our silver and gold is sourced from Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter, one of the most respected centres of metalworking in the world, and just a stone's throw from our workshop. We've built relationships with suppliers who share our standards, because the quality of what goes in determines the quality of what comes out.
You'll never find silver-plated or hollow-filled pieces in our collection. Solid metal only.
Our Process
How We Make It
Every piece of JGT jewellery begins as raw metal and is worked by hand using traditional silversmithing techniques that have changed little in centuries. Here's what that looks like in practice.

Starting with Solid Metal
We begin with solid 925 sterling silver or 9ct gold, sheet, wire or rod, sourced from Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter. No plating, no fillers. Just quality metal from the start.

Shaping by Hand
Depending on the design, the metal is forged on the hammer, shaped around a mandrel, hand-cut, filed, soldered or textured. Our bangles, what JGT is best known for, are formed entirely by hand from start to finish. No shortcuts, no moulds.

Polishing to a High Finish
Once shaped, every piece is polished by hand to a smooth, reflective finish. It's a time-consuming step, but it's what gives JGT jewellery its final look - and what makes it feel as good as it looks.

Quality Inspection
Before anything leaves our workshop, it's inspected by our team. If it doesn't meet our standards, it doesn't go out. Simple as that.

Boxed and Gift Ready
Every approved piece is presented in a JGT jewellery box, ready to wear or gift from the moment it arrives.

The GT Makers Mark
Look closely at your JGT piece and you'll find the GT maker's mark, a stamp that has appeared on John's work for over 50 years.
It began as a way to distinguish the armour John restored and produced early in his career, for institutions including the National Trust and Warwick Castle. When he turned his skills to jewellery, the mark came with him.
It represents everything that goes into every piece: the decades of experience, the commitment to craft, and the pride of making something built to last.

Made to Be Worn
Handmade doesn't mean fragile. Our jewellery is designed for everyday wear - pieces you reach for in the morning without thinking twice, that still look beautiful years later.
That's why our customers come back. Not just for new pieces, but because the ones they already own have held up. A JGT bangle bought a decade ago still sits on a wrist today. That's the standard we hold ourselves to.

Finished and Ready to Gift
Every piece of JGT jewellery is presented in a JGT jewellery box, inspected and ready to gift from the moment it arrives. We also offer custom sizing on many pieces - because jewellery should fit the person wearing it, not the other way around.
Add a polishing cloth at checkout to keep your piece looking its best for years to come.

FAQs About Our Jewellery

Is there a difference between solid silver and silver plated jewellery?
Yes. Silver-plated jewellery is a base metal - usually brass or copper - coated in a thin layer of silver that wears away over time. Solid 925 sterling silver runs all the way through. It lasts longer, won't fade and can be resized easily. Every JGT piece is solid metal. Always.
What does 925 mean on silver jewellery?
925 is the hallmark for sterling silver - it means the piece is 92.5% pure silver. Pure silver alone is too soft for everyday wear, so the remaining 7.5% (usually copper) adds strength and durability. If a piece doesn't carry a 925 hallmark, it isn't solid silver.
Will my silver jewellery tarnish?
All sterling silver can tarnish over time. It's a natural reaction to air and moisture, not a quality issue. A quick buff with a silver polishing cloth brings it straight back. We recommend checking out our jewellery cleaning and care guide.
